Ted Saylor

Ted Saylor and J.D. "Tex" Brownlow became life long friends during their time in CASU 44. After the war they remained in touch and on occasion they shared vacation time traveling throughout the US.

Ted L. Saylor, 93, died Monday (October 24, 2016) at the Asbury Park Greenhouse in Newton. He was born on December 17, 1922 in Newton, Ks., the son of Arthur L. and Lucy Emma Sickelbower. Ted graduated from Newton High School in 1940. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on Tinian Island. After being discharged Ted returned to Newton where he went to work for Kansas Gas and Electric. He was a construction coordinator for the company until retiring in 1985. Ted married Mary Jane Mann on January 30, 1948 in Newton. She died on April 8, 1999. He later married Bobbie Boston on February 21, 2004, she survives living in Peabody, Ks. Through the years, Ted built five homes in Newton for himself and others. After retiring he enjoyed making INTARSIA pictures and sold them at craft shows throughout Kansas. Ted had been a longtime member of the First Christian Church, American Legion and V.F.W. He is also survived by two sons, Kim L. Saylor and his wife Edie of Newton and Cory L. Saylor of Wichita; brother Rex Saylor and his wife Helen of Newton; brother-in-law Glen Hathaway of Hawaii; grandchildren Shane Saylor and wife Jenni, Tieyce Rhodes, Lance Saylor and wife Meghan, and Krista Saylor; and five great grandchildren. Ted is preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Jane; sister Betty Ann Hathaway; and grandson Kyle Bryant Saylor. The family would like to graciously thank the staff of Asbury Greenhouse 405, especially Pati, Jen, Ashley and Missy for their excellent care. As well as Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassionate care and assistance. Cremation has taken place and keeping with Ted’s wishes, no services will be held.

Sept. 7, 1925 - Sept. 30, 2016 Jeff D. "JD" Brownlow passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at the age of 91. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2016, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Waco, TX. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the funeral home, with Brother Mark Jobe officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

JD was born September 7, 1925 in Rock Creek, to Eugene Albert Brownlow and Rosilla Rogers Brownlow. He was raised in China Spring where his parents were share croppers and he helped work on the farm from a very early age. His mom passed away and his dad had to go to a hospital for TB. JD quit school in the 8th grade to run the farm gathering in the crop and planting and gathering two more crops after that. He decided farming was not his calling and went into the Navy when he was 17 years old. He served in WW II in CASU44(F) on Tinian in the Mariana Islands.

After the Navy, JD married Louise Mirick whom he had known since they were 13 years old. They married in Salome, Arizona on October 16, 1946. The next year they returned to Texas and JD worked at General Tire for a short time. In November of 1947, he started to work at the VA Hospital in the kitchen. Later, he transferred into the paint shop where he worked his way up to paint shop foreman. He retired from the VA at 55 years old. He also painted on his off time for many VA doctors, nurses and friends and family in the Waco and surrounding areas. He was in great demand because of his awesome talent.

He and Louise shared a wonderful 65 years traveling, bowling and many trips to Las Vegas and Shreveport. Louise was diagnosed in the mid 1990's with Alzheimer's. JD was her very dedicated caregiver until she passed in 2010. JD was preceded in death by his parents; Louise Brownlow, wife; Edwin Brownlow, brother; and great-grandson Prentiss "PJ" Cross, Jr. He is survived by his son, Gene Brownlow and wife, Sandy; daughter, Jenita Ferguson; grandchildren, Tammy Naylor and husband, Curtis Naylor, Donnie Brownlow, Sarah Hopkins and husband, Anthony, Matthew Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Johnny Brownlow and wife, Lindsey, and Kylee Cook; and great-great-grandsons, Zachary and Benjamin Brownlow. Pallbearers will be Brian Mirick, Scott Mahone, Charles Mirick Jr., Ricky Mirick, Prentiss Cross, and Curtis Naylor.
